In "The Dictator", comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen stars as General Aladeen, a ruthless and flamboyant dictator from the fictional nation of Wadiya. The film follows Aladeen's journey as he risks everything to ensure that democracy never takes hold in his beloved country. After the death of his father, Aladeen is forced to flee his country and go into hiding in New York City. Disguising himself as a humble mortician named Jamie Buntem, Aladeen becomes determined to prevent a new democracy from being established in Wadiya, which he believes will lead to chaos and destruction. As Aladeen navigates the unfamiliar streets of Manhattan, he becomes embroiled in a series of misadventures, including a run-in with a group of militant vegetarians, an awkward encounter with a naive American journalist named Zoey (Anna Faris), and a series of comically disastrous attempts to assassinate the newly elected democratic leader of Wadiya. Throughout his journey, Aladeen's ego and sense of self-importance are constantly challenged by the absurdities and humiliations he faces in America. Meanwhile, his loyal but bumbling right-hand man, Tamir (Amit Sachdeva), back in Wadiya, struggles to keep the country from descending into chaos in the dictator's absence. As Aladeen's antics become increasingly outlandish and unpredictable, he finds himself torn between his desire to maintain power and control over Wadiya, and his growing attraction to Zoey, who seems to be the only person able to see through his disguise. In the end, Aladeen must confront the harsh realities of his own legacy and the true cost of his actions.
